SUMMARY

Responsible for supervision of all aspects of specialty pharmacy professional services including dispensing, operational, financial, compliance, staff performance, and leadership. Perform functions to verify the appropriate dispensing of specialty medication referrals.  Provide expert counseling and serve as a resource to answer medication related questions for patients, caregivers, prescribers, pharmacists, nurses, and other related healthcare professionals.  Oversee development and ongoing review of Specialty Pharmacy patient therapy surveys, ensuring they meet the needs of specialty patients and all involved industry and accreditation partners. Collaborates with the Manager of Pharmacy Services and Business Development to develop, review and execute specialty pharmacy business opportunities and initiatives. Serves as the Senior Clinical Staff member and completes all required tasks needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for the supervision of the Specialty Pharmacy program and accountable for workflow management, adherence to policy and procedures, compliance with internal and external regulatory bodies. 

Responsible to oversee entire operation of the Specialty Pharmacy program ensuring achievement of financial goals including budget, payroll, third party administration, and scheduling to promote optimal financial viability.

Responsible for managing Specialty Pharmacy support personnel functions within the specialty pharmacy team, including job performance and review.

Serve as the Senior Clinical Staff member which includes oversight of clinical decision-making aspects of the specialty pharmacy patient management program, ensured qualified clinicians are accountable to the organization for decisions affecting consumers, and provides guidance for clinical operational aspects of the patient management program.

Participates in business development activities with targeted industry partners to include development and maintenance of good working relationships with prescribers, other health professionals, and industry partners to drive growth of specialty business.

Counsel patients and health care providers regarding the nature and use of drugs, dosage, drug interactions, and side effects.  Monitors the health and progress of patients to ensure compliance and optimize therapies.

Coordinates and organizes pharmacy department daily schedule of activities.

Manages pharmacy staffing by planning for and scheduling appropriate pharmacy hours in adherence with budgeting guidelines.

Assists to create timely reporting of Specialty Pharmacy activities as needed to fulfill contractual obligations with industry partners.

Provides courteous and efficient service to customers inclusive of patients, prescribers, pharmaceutical manufacturers, payers, and health systems.

Maintain and communicate required reports for quality management committees.

Uses discretion and professional judgment in providing exemplary service within the pharmacist’s scope of practice.

Completes continuing education programs as required by licensure requirements.

Complies with all federal and state laws and regulations and Company policies governing all drugs and products; maintains required records, documentation, and reports.

Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • 5-year Bachelor of Science Degree in Pharmacy

  • Licensed and registered Pharmacist in good standing within the state of practice

  • Successful pharmacy management experience
  • Previous Specialty Pharmacy experience to include Specialty Pharmacy residency program
  • Knowledge of pharmacy information systems and personal computers including word processing, database and spreadsheet design
  • Demonstrates follow-through to achieve desired results and objectives
